I just couldn’t help but address this very important question before I go to sleep tonight. Realizing that so many people claim that they believe in Jesus Christ and so are saved from eternal damnation. Yet what does the Bible say regarding this? Although this is not intended as an exhaustive study regarding this subject, this should cause enough for anyone to examine their understanding and relationship with our Lord Jesus in claiming belief in Him for salvation. Let us see what the Bible say about how and who really believes Him. In 1-John 2:3-6 we read;
“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. Whoever says “I know him” (meaning believe in Him) but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, but whoever keeps His word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may be sure that we are in Him: whoever says he abides in Him ought to walk in the same way in which He walked.”
This is very important to understand because it lets us know how we truly stand in the eyes of God. He always looks in our heart to see our faith in Him to know what we really desire within and our true intention for doing things. By this standard we know if we are His or we are only fooling our self-thinking we are saved but remains unchanged. Understand that I am not saying that a “believer” could live a perfect life, as that would be impossible while we are on this corrupted fleshly body. But what it means is that the fruits of the Holy Spirit should be evident in our life, that we now desire to dedicate our life to Jesus and in faith follow Him. To repent of our sinful ways and dive into His Word and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit daily so we may continue to grow and learn how to apply His Word to our life.
1-Thessalonians 5:17 teach us to “Pray without Ceasing.” This means we carry with us an attitude of God-consciousness and God-surrender all the time. Every waking moment is to be lived in an awareness that God is within us and that He is actively involved and engaged in our thoughts and actions. When our thoughts turn to worry, fear, discouragement, and anger, we are to consciously and quickly turn every thought into prayer and every prayer into thanksgiving. Living for God, joyfully giving up our selves and desiring God’s will above all else.
As we draw nearer to God and come to know Him more and more, His desires will more naturally become ours. As we mature, our desire to obey God’s commands increases as our love for Him increases and therefore be able to live a better life in Christ. As Jesus said, “If you love me, you will obey what I command” (John 14:15).
Do you find this true to you? That in faith, you can personally claim and “Believe” Jesus Christ is your Savior. In fact I’d like to close this question with another question that is a vital key to know and understand. If you have not yet realized what all the above is saying;
Is Jesus the “LORD” of your life?
